How It Works
The Demand Computer has two energy control functions:
- It shifts energy use to off-peak by keeping specified loads off and duty-cycling other selected loads during the peak price time.
- It controls demand by averaging the total energy usage of the home and comparing the average with the desired demand level. When the average begins to rise above this level, the lowest priority loads are deferred according to the chosen strategy. The Demand Computer automatically restores the loads when usage decreases. What you need least is controlled first.
Only a few major, deferrable loads are controlled - electric heater, air conditioners, water heaters, and the clothes dryer heating element. Controlling these is all that is needed for major savings on your utility bill.
